Meteor Crater national natural landmark
Meteor Crater near Winslow, Arizona. Photograph: Alamy
Around 50,000 years ago, when woolly mammoths and giant ground sloths roamed eastern Arizona, an iron-nickel meteor the size of three school buses streaked across the sky and slammed into the earth with a force greater than 10 megatonnes of TNT. The impact left a massive circular hole in the earth's crust, just off the interstate near Winslow. It's a mile across, 2.4 miles in circumference and about 170m deep – and now known as one of the world's best-preserved examples of a meteor crater.
Meteor Crater is actually privately owned, but it's open to the public and recognised as a national natural landmark. A well-appointed visitor centre displays copious information about how the crater was formed and its long road to recognition as a meteor crater, as opposed to a volcanic feature. RV and tent camping is also available on site, or down the road at.
Top tip Visitors are no longer allowed to hike down into the crater, but you can join one of the guided tours that explores its rim. o Useful link /

Grand Canyon national park
Other canyons on earth are longer and wider (Australia's Capertee Valley is both) and deeper (Kali Gandaki Gorge&in&Nepal), but none is as famous as the , with its intricate layering, maze-like side canyons, vivid colours and epic visual scale. It's 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and over a mile deep, cutting&down through more than two billion years of geologic time, exposing some of the oldest rocks on earth.
To visit the Grand Canyon, in north-west , choose between the more developed South Rim, which is open year-round, and has drive-up overlooks, museums and mule rides, or the more secluded North Rim, which is higher in elevation and closed to vehicles from mid-October until mid-May because of the snow (skiers and snowshoers are welcome). The average distance across the canyon is only 10 miles, but there are no bridges for cars and the 215-mile drive from one rim to the other takes five hours. Both rims offer lodging and camping options, as well as a selection of trails descending into the canyon. Or you see it from a rafting expedition down the Colorado river.
Top tips Standing on the edge of either rim is awe-inspiring, but nothing beats actually getting down in the canyon. Do not attempt to hike from the rim to the Colorado river and back in one day! To spend the night in the canyon, you need backcountry hiking and camping permits. Or book a mule ride to , one of the most remote lodges in the national park system. Summer temperatures can be sweltering in the canyon. Winter is often the best season for hiking, though backpackers should be prepared for snow and ice. Useful links , , ,

Canyon De Chelly national monument
Canyon de Chelly Arizona, the Spider Rock overlook. Photograph: Alamy
Canyon De Chelly is a sacred place. Carved into the sandstone bedrock of north-eastern Arizona, near Chinle, the three spectacular canyons,&De Chelly, Del Muerto, and Monument, lie at the centre of the Navajo Nation and at the heart of many native legends.
These canyons have been occupied for thousands of years, more continuously than anywhere else in North A the Ancestral Puebloans, Anasazi, Hopi and Navajo have all called this place home. Today, Canyon De Chelly is operated as a national monument on Navajo Tribal Trust Land, the only national monument not owned by the federal government.
Because the Navajo people still call Canyon De Chelly (pronounced de-shay) home, visitors are restricted from exploring without a native guide. Unaccompanied visitors can follow the scenic North and South Rim drives, with overlooks along the lengths of the canyons, including at Spider Rock, an iconic sandstone spire that towers 230m above the canyon floor.
To see more, you'll need to hire a native guide to escort you on either foot, 4x4 or horseback. Book your tour ahead of time or stop by the visitor centre for recommendations. Tent and RV camping is available at the Cottonwood campsite.
Top tip You don't need a guide to hike down to the White House Ruins, a three-mile circular trek that drops 150m down into the canyon. The trail begins six miles east of the visitor centre along the South Rim drive. Remember, as with all canyons, hik getting back up is mandatory! Useful links ,

Monument Valley Navajo tribal park
Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, Arizona/Utah. Photograph: Alamy
Monument Valley has long been used as a dramatic backdrop for Hollywood westerns, but the even biggest movie screens don't do justice to this incredible landscape in north-east Arizona. Monument Valley is named for the dozens of free-standing sandstone buttes and monoliths that tower above the sweeping sagebrush landscape. Bridging the state line between Arizona and Utah, the formations serve as a fitting gateway to south-east Utah's famous red-rock country.
The land is held by the Navajo people, and visitors must pay an access fee to drive through the tribal park on a 17-mile dirt loop, which is suitable for all cars when dry but impassable after a storm ( usually in late summer). Tours to other areas, such as Mystery Valley and Hunts Mesa, can be arranged at the visitor centre, off Highway 163. There is no camping within the park itself, but many opportunities can be found to the north and south. Top tip Be sure to get out of the car and experience some this wide-open landscape on foot via the 3.2-mile Wildcat trail, around the West Mitten butte. It's self-guided and open to the public. Other access to tribal land requires permits and/or guides. Useful link
Natural Bridges national monument
White Canyon, Natural Bridges national monument. Photograph: Pritz Pritz/Getty Images/F1online RM
In geologic terms, the difference between an arch and a natural bridge is water. The former is carved by wind and ice, while the latter is sculpted by a waterway. Three of the most spectacular examples of natural bridges can be found in south-east Utah, just west of Blanding at
national monument.
Here, three majestic bridges, named Kachina, Owachomo and Sipapu, span the White and Anderson canyons. Sipapu, a Hopi name that celebrates the traditional portal through which the First People emerged into the present world, is the largest of the three and one of the longest natural bridges in the world. Evidence for at least two collapsed bridges are found within the park.
All three spans can be viewed from overlooks, with
leading down to each bridge. The trail to Owachomo is an easy half-mile round trip, while the climb down to Sipapu is considerably steeper and negotiates stairs and three ladders. Camping is available inside the park.
Top tip All three bridges can be linked by a 8&frac12;-mile loop that runs through the bottom of the White and Armstrong canyons, making for a nice all-day trek.
Islands in the sky。
Canyonlands national park
Green River Overlook, Canyonlands national park. Photograph: Mark C Stevens/Getty Images/Flickr RF
The south-west desert is known for out-of-this-world landscapes – some places look like the moon, others like Mars – but Utah's is an otherworldly place like no other. Here countless canyons, buttes and mesas are carved into a topography so intricate that you find yourself wandering through places with names such as the Maze, the Needles and Island in the Sky.
Canyonlands is Utah's largest park. You could spend a lifetime exploring the land between the Colorado and the Green rivers and still not reach all the way into the park's red depths. Tour companies based in
offer Jeep tours, hiking, rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, canyoneering, mountain biking, BASE jumping, skydiving, hang gliding, extreme rope swings ... you name it, Canyonlands has it.
No matter what kind of adventure you tackle, be sure to stay overnight and catch sunset, the stars and sunrise over the vast maze of red rocks. The park has two developed campgrounds and free dispersed camping can be found nearby. For hotels and hostels, stay in Moab or Blanding.
Top tip Visit a geologic mystery at Upheaval Dome. This massive, almost perfectly round rock formation is either an impact crater from a meteor or an uplifted, eroded salt dome. Either way, it's a fantastic place for a hike in the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands.
Dead Horse Point state park
Sunset at Dead Horse Point. Photograph: Matthew Crowley Photography/Getty Images/Flickr RF
Most people flock to the Moab area to visit Arches national park, but this morbidly named gem of a state park is much quieter and possibly even more scenic. Located south and west of Arches,
is a narrow 2,000-ft high promontory that overlooks the northern reaches of Canyonlands national park.
Back in the 19th century, cowboys used the point as a natural corral, where they could herd mustangs out to the tip and build a fence across the bottleneck of the point. Then they could pick and choose the best horses from the bunch and let the others go. As the story goes, on one occasion the cowboys forgot to open the gate and the remaining horses all died of thirst out on the point, within view of the Colorado river below but trapped by precipitous cliffs.
Tents and motorhomes are allowed at the Dead Horse Point campground and dispersed sites can be found outside the park. Hotel rooms and hostel beds can be found 30 miles away in Moab.
Top tip You can drive all the way out to the edge of Dead Horse Point, but why drive when the walk is among the most spectacular in the south-west? The three-mile Rim Trail starts at the visitor centre and skirts the edge of the point, overlooking the meandering Colorado river, Canyonlands, La Sal mountains and, on a clear day, most of south-east Utah.

Capitol Reef national park
The Castle, Capitol Reef national park. Photograph: Christian Heinrich/Getty Images/Imagebroker RF
is a narrow park, less than 20 miles wide, but over 100 miles long, which protects the Waterpocket Fold, an awesome S-shaped warp in the Earth's crust that was created over 65 million years ago by the same forces that built the Rocky Mountains. It's the longest exposed &monocline& in the world, but you don't have to be a geologist to appreciate 's amazing rocks.
The park is named after its series of domes and cliffs, eroded into white Navajo sandstone, which somewhat resemble the US Capitol building in Washington DC. The reef part of the name is a throwback to pioneer days, when settlers were forced to detour all the way around the Waterpocket Fold, which remains all but impassible even today.
A few four-wheel drive roads run into the park, but this place is best seen on foot. Start at the visitor centre (open year-round) and head either north to Cathedral Valley or south into the Waterpocket Fold area. The park has a campground and rooms can be found in nearby Torrey and along highway 12, towards Boulder.
Top tip The
cuts lengthwise along the tilted spine of the Waterpocket Fold, making for a rugged but stunning 15-mile overnight loop hike. Free backcountry camping permits are available in the visitor centre.
走了Queen's Garden Trail, Navajo Loop Trail, Sunrise Point to Sunset Point三条短线。
(Bryce Canyon National Park)
Bryce Point,&&2. Inspiration Point,&3. Sunset Point,&4. Sunrise Point。

Kolob Canyon
2、从&Canyon Junction&到&Temple of Sinawava&一段不能开车,必须坐&shuttle bus。

波浪谷,the wave,属于coyote buttes area
有online permit和walk-in permit两种方式
(Death Valley National Park)
