如果你有一把价值连城的古代刀剑，你会如何对待它？
针对标题所提出的问题，每个人心中都有一个自己的答案，既然价值连城，有的朋友心生欢喜，可以将它卖了，置办车房，但是我相信大多真心热爱刀剑的朋友更愿意将它奉若至宝，世代相传。

那么，得到一把价值连城的古代刀剑，第一件要做的事是什么呢?

一把刀剑，经历数千年的风霜，难免受到岁月的摧残，容貌不复往昔，而我们要做的第一件事，就是对它进行修复！
刀剑修复自古有之，中国古代修复刀剑大多是从实用角度出发，如：刀刃在作战中折损，随军刀匠会对其煅接或打磨;刀剑配件丢失，使用者会找相关零件补充等。这种修复只是以满足刀剑正常使用为目的，修复往往草率、粗陋。

与之相比，当今的刀剑修复大多是从器物外观展示入手，如：清理配件污垢、研磨刀剑刃体，还原刀剑原始风格和形制，纠正刃与装张冠李戴现象等。
修复刀剑时要有根有据，而非凭空想象、任意臆造，这样才能最大程度地保留古兵器的神韵和历史痕迹，以被后人传承和鉴赏。
著名的古刀剑修复专家认为刀剑修复应该本着以下几个原则，即：大修不如小修、小修不如不修、早修不如晚修，这样可以尽可能地保存古刀剑的原始信息，以便后期深入研究。

如果必须对古刀剑进行修复，便需要找好参照物，比如有同类完整形制的刀剑做母本，修复部分应该严格按照母本进行，不可任意改造、创新。
在无相关同类完整器型的刀剑做母本时，修复部分可有自己的见解，但这种见解须建立在对历代刀剑形制熟知、深解的前提下进行，经过反复推敲印证方可实施，绝不可主观臆造。

无论如何都不应该在刀剑修复时进行人为改造，如：在刀剑刃体补刻铭文、将无血槽的刀身开槽、在素配件上阴刻纹饰等，以此来提高刀剑价值，这种行为不仅是对刀剑的破坏，也是一种造假行为 。

经过众多古刀剑修复专家的不懈探索，中国古刀剑制作全套工艺在当下基本被从业人员所掌握，如：缠柄绳、修配柄鞘、刷漆包皮、研磨刃体、焊接开裂等基础修复，比较复杂的带有阴刻、浮雕、镂空、鎏金、镶嵌工艺的刀剑配件。
如果在专业修复公司及工作室制作修配的话也不是难事，而像古刀剑制作工艺中最难的錽金银工艺及铁镂空錽金银工艺也在近几年内被从业人员攻克。

现在在修复工艺上唯一需要完善的事可能就是做旧的水平还有些不到位，随着刀剑修复工艺发展和不断提高，这一问题也会很快解决。
