Homer Hickam (also known as Homer H. Hickam, Jr.) is the bestselling and award-winning author of many books, including the #1 New York Times memoir Rocket Boys, which was adapted into the popular film October Sky. A writer since grade school, he is also a Vietnam veteran, a former coal miner, a scuba instructor, an avid amateur paleontologist, and a retired engineer. He lives in Alabama and the Virgin Islands.

Ok, full disclosure here - I have met and spent time with the author and find him as engaging and delightful in person as he is on the page (not always the case with authors).Now, let's get back to the review of "Albert". Having read all of his books, I must admit that I have come to expect certain things from Mr. Hickam's writing. All of my expectations were exceeded, and more. In reading "Albert", I found myself amused by the characters and situations in which they find themselves. I also discovered that this book is so much more than a "Tale about a Man, a Woman and Her Alligator" as the subtitle suggests. It is a rollicking adventure, full of unlikely but mistly believable events that will keep you up to the wee hours turning pages. It is also a love story - but, I'm not entirely sure whose love. The author leaves that conclusion up to the reader.Mostly, though, I found myself surprised. The book, in its entirety, is a seminal work in the genre of "family legend." It was laugh out loud ridiculous and silly, but ultimately compelling fictional story of the author's parents before the children were born.
They are taking a pet alligator that has grown from a baby to 4 feet long from the coalfields of West Virginia back to his origins in Florida.
There were no interstate highways yet and each leg of the journey brought new adventures.
This is a light, fun read with characters that you can really cheer for.

已在美国亚马逊上发表已确认购买This book was selected by someone in my book club. It's an easy read, but I was happy to finish it. it is sort of a love story and sort of a memoir, but labeled a novel by the author. Be aware that there are missing pages on my Amazon Fire and none of the pictures are shown on my Fire. I think Amazon should correct this and refund the price of the book. It is not worth the money.
