Game Guide:Mechs
Get ready to strap on a mechanical exo-suit and start blowing stuff up—mechs have been added to ZMR! If you haven’t done so already, go through the in-game mech training mission. It will teach you just about everything you need to know about piloting ZMR mechs.
To access the mech training mission, select PvP after you log in and scroll down to the blue mech PvP lobbies. Access the mech training mission via the button above your locker.
Mech Controls
If you haven’t completed mech training or just need a refresher on the controls, here are the basics:
: Use [W][A][S][D] to move forward or backward, and strafe left or right. Use the mouse to turn and aim.
Fire Weapons
: Press the left mouse button to fire the weapon on your left arm strut. Press the right mouse button to fire the weapon on your right arm strut. You can fire both weapons simultaneously, which is useful when using automatic weapons like the default .50-caliber machine cannons.
: Press [Shift] with [W] or [S] to use your thrusters to jet forward or backward quickly. Press [Shift] with [A] or [D] to thrust-strafe. You maintain your horizontal position when thrusting, even when in the air. Thrusting consumes energy, and you will stop thrusting (and possibly fall) when your energy runs out. Energy replenishes in between thruster use.
: Press and hold [Space Bar] to use your thrusters to jump and hover. You can also use the [W][A][S][D] keys while hovering to move around in the air. Hovering consumes thruster energy. You will fall when your energy runs out. Energy replenishes in between thruster use.
Enter/Exit
: Press [E] when standing next to a mech to enter it. Press [E] while in a mech to exit.
: You can repair damage to your mech by exiting and holding [E] while standing next to the damaged mech.
Mech Inventory Window
You will find available mechs and their associated weaponry in the mech inventory screen. Here you can change your mech loadouts to customize the mechs you take into battle. We have listed the major areas of the mech locker screen below to help you navigate. You can also switch back to your soldier locker by clicking the top tab on the left edge of the window.
Mech Class Tabs
: The three tabs across the top switch between light, medium, and heavy mech inventories.
: This slot shows the current mech model equipped for the selected class. This is the mech you will take into battle when you press [F5] (light), [F6] (medium), or [F7] (heavy) at the mech PvP loading screen (when entering a battle or while waiting to respawn mid-battle).
Left Arm/Right Arm
: Click these slots to view or change the weapons equipped on that mech. You fire the left arm weapon by pressing the left mouse button and the right arm weapon by pressing the right mouse button.
: Click this slot to attach or change the CPU upgrade equipped on that mech.
: Click this slot to attach or change the engine upgrade equipped on that mech.
: Click this slot to attach or change the servo upgrade equipped on that mech.
: This number displays the mech rank you have attained on that class of mech (light, medium, or heavy). Some mechs, weapons, and devices require higher mech ranks to use.
: Every mech, mech weapon, and mech upgrade has a rating listed in the tooltip (indicating their quality or functional benefit). This number displays the total rating for the currently equipped mech, accounts for any equipped weapons or upgrade, and indicates the overall relative strength of that mech.
: This bar displays how much mech EXP you need to reach your next mech rank in this class. The number to the right of the bar specifies your current MEXP and the total needed to reach the next rank. You earn MEXP separately for each mech class (light, medium, and heavy) by participating in Team Mech Matches.
Remove Button
: Click this button to remove all weapons and devices from the currently equipped mech.
: This chart displays the five main mech stats (armor, damage, max energy, energy recharge rate, and movement) of the currently equipped mech, and graphically depicts that mech’s strengths and weakness. When you add equipment, the numbers and the graph will change to reflect any impact that equipment has on the mech’s stats.
Mech Classes
Light Mechs
: Light mechs are built for speed. Light mechs move faster, have more thruster energy, and recharge energy faster than medium or heavy mechs. Their drawback: they have the least amount of armor of any class. Light mechs have access to melee blades and shotguns.
Medium Mechs
: Medium mechs are built to be versatile. They have decent numbers in all basic mech stats. They are slower than light mechs, but have more armor. They are faster than heavy mechs, but have lower armor. Medium mechs have access to direct-fire rockets and homing missiles.
Heavy Mechs
: Heavy mechs are your basic tank vehicle. They move slowly and have small energy reserves that don’t recharge very quickly, but they have the most armor of any mech class. Heavy mechs have access to energy shields and Gatling cannons.
Mech Weapons
All mechs come equipped with a .50-caliber machine cannon on each arm. You cannot remove these, but you can replace them with other weapons. Every mech class has access to two class-specific weapon types and two universal weapon types that you can purchase and equip on various mechs. You can even equip the same weapon on both arms as long as you purchase two and they are not unique.
Most mech weapons pull ammo from a magazine, just like your regular weapons. If your magazine runs out, your mech will reload automatically. You can also press [R] to reload manually, which will reload both weapons. Reloading takes a few seconds and ends automatically. You do not need to press [R] again.
Some weapons, like the AD-19 Avenger and the Z-243 Vulcan Cannon, have no magazines to reload, but will overheat if you fire them continuously. When your weapon gets too hot, it will stop firing until it cools down again, so it’s a good idea to fire these weapons in controlled bursts.
Universal Mech Weapons
: All mechs have access to automatic assault rifles (such as the ZPC-1 Pulse Cannon) and sniper rifles (such as the AD-4 Particle Rifle), which pilots can purchase to customize their mechs for specific types of combat.
Light Mech Weapons
: Light mechs have access to melee blades (such as the Gladius CQB) and shotguns (such as the Outlaw Scatter Cannon), making them excellent at close-quarters combat. Thrust into range, take your shot, and strafe out of danger.
Medium Mech Weapons
: Medium mechs have access to dumb-fire rocket launchers (such as the Z-209 Thunderbolt) and guided missile launchers (such as the AD-23 Sidewinder), making them excellent at long-distance battles and suppressing enemy movement from high vantage points.
Heavy Mech Weapons
: Heavy mechs have access to energy shields (such as the Spartan Plasma Shield) and Gatling cannons (such as the Z-243 Vulcan Cannon), allowing them to withstand heavy enemy fire and open up with a massive barrage of bullets.
Mech Upgrades
Mech upgrades alter one or more mech stats when equipped. Some upgrades will provide a plus to one stat at the expense of a penalty in another. Each mech has four upgrade slots: CPU, engine, servo, and extra. CPU and engine are both unlocked by default. The servo slot is unlocked upon reaching mech rank 15. The extra slot is not currently used in ZMR.
By mixing and matching device bonuses in the three available slots, you can boost a single stat to make up for a mech’s weaknesses or use one device’s stat bonuses to make up for another device’s stat penalties.
CPU Devices
: These alter the way your mech prioritizes systems to provide various bonuses. For example, the supercharger prioritizes the weapon systems to increase damage.
Engine Devices
: Engine upgrades attach to your mech’s engine to alter how it performs in combat. For example, the overdrive coil increases a mech’s speed.
Servo Devices
upgrades attach to or replace the servo mechanisms in your mech’s joints to alter how they perform in combat. For example, the speed actuator is a friction-reducing actuator that improves leg movement, thus increasing movement rate.

Recent updates
Greetings MechWarriors,The latest wave of Clan Hero 'Mechs have arrived, and are now en-route to MechBays of eligible MechWarriors. With the arrival of these nine Clan Heroes, all Clan OmniMechs currently in-game now have at least one Hero variant. This patch also sees the release of distinct C-Bill variants for each of these nine Clan chassis. Along with these releases we've taken this opportunity to run a Quirk pass on specific variants of these Clan chassis, and have additionally updated these 'Mechs to support the visual display of all the new Clan tech released in our July patch. With Incursion released in April, the Skill Tree and major balance adjustments in May, Competitive Mode and the Energy rebalance in June, and the new tech and timeline in July, August is a fairly light patch compared to recent months. Beyond the new Clan variants the main highlights of this patch for most will likely be a number of fixes and improvements throughout the game, such as a fix for two long-standing Faction Play DropShip issues, a fix for the impact of the Enhanced RAC/UAC Skill Node on RAC performance, improvements for the Uziel hitboxes, a fix for the long-standing issue of game objective audio continuing to trigger after the match has concluded, and more. This patch also features a handful of improvements to the Private Match Spectator Tool as we approach the Semi-Finals phase of the MechWarrior Online World Championship Tournament in September. We'd like to take a moment here to acknowledge the feedback we've received regarding the animation of the Mad Cat MK II and Uziel 'Mechs since their release in July. Both of these 'Mechs will be undergoing an additional animation pass to address unfortunately, at this time we can't provide a solid ETA for when those adjustments will be made. We will attempt to get these 'Mechs addressed as soon as possible. We'd like to apologize to all Mad Cat and Uziel pilots for the issues with animation quality present upon their initial release, and for the delay of their improvement. In the meantime, read on for all the details of the August patch, and we'll see you on the battlefield!- The MechWarrior Team
Greetings MechWarriors,A new era is finally upon us. Quartermasters throughout the Clan and Inner Sphere territories are deploying shipments of an array of new equipment and weaponry, while rumors of additional Clan forces arriving from beyond the Periphery are swirling throughout the Inner Sphere.Due to their length, we're going to break from tradition a bit and dispense with the usual intro summary for these patch notes. So without further delay, let's get into what's arriving in our upcoming July 18th patch!Timeline AdvancementNew Technology Update Inner Sphere and ClanNew Weapons and Visual RetrofittingCivil War 'MechsGameplaySkill TreeBallisticsEnergyCompetitive ModeNew Cockpit Items, Titles and Badges, and DecalsOther Fixes and Changes!- The MechWarrior Team
About This Game
MechWarrior Online(TM) is a tactical, 'Mech-based online shooter set in the rich BattleTech Universe. The battlefields of the 31st century are dominated by immense and powerful mechanized units known as BattleMechs. Piloting these war machines are the most elite soldiers that the galaxy has ever known. To most, they are known simply as MechWarriors. You will assume the role of an elite MechWarrior, fighting for supremacy over the galaxy against other players.Quick Play is where you'll find fast action, fielding a single 'Mech in team-based game modes and maps. Unlike Faction Play, Quick Play matches do not influence the layout of Inner S these battles are fought purely for rewards and glory. In Faction Play you will field 4 ‘Mechs per match, lending your skills and allegiance to the Faction of your choosing in prolonged team-based engagements, conquering and defending planets in their name to earn rewards and expand your Faction's territory across the Inner Sphere.Piloting a 'Mech to victory requires a mastery of tactical positioning, teamwork, and firing discipline. Strike out as a Lone Wolf or seek out one of the many player-controlled Units and fight under the banners of powerful galactic empires for prestige, wealth, or nothing more than the sheer thrill of battle. Next Gen Mobility - By the 31st century, tanks have evolved to take on humanoid shape, their treads replaced with nimble legs. Like modern tanks, 'Mechs move their upper torso and weapons independently of their legs offering unparalleled mobility while exchanging fire. Depending on their size, BattleMechs travel at vastly different speeds and offer different systems like jump jets to aid in their locomotion.Make Every Shot Count - Pilots must balance mobility and damage output against the amount of heat generated from their weapons fire and 'Mech operation, lest they risk the temporary loss of power that comes when a 'Mech overheats. Firing all weapons simultaneously (known as an Alpha Strike) can be the quickest way to devastate an opponent, but may leave a 'Mech helpless against its enemies if the heat sinks can't handle the stress.Fight Smart - 'Mechs possess both external armor and strong internal structural elements to help minimize the chance of a 'quick kill'. As a result, pilots must treat each encounter with the utmost attention and awareness, prioritizing weaker or more critical components before delivering the killing blow. Communication among teammates and the effective use of targeting systems can help to identify vulnerable 'Mechs and components.Teamwork is the Difference - Targeting a 'Mech will automatically allow your teammates to achieve their own lock, allowing them to ascertain vital location data, armor status, and loadout details for the targeted enemy. Information Warfare can be a vital component for victory, providing attack-focused allies with the necessary information to tear their opponents to pieces.Information Warfare - While fast-moving scouts feed target and tactical information back to the main battle group and the team commander, long-range Support and heavy-hitting Brawler and Assault ‘Mechs will use this information to position themselves for the perfect strike. Pilots can also shield themselves and allies from enemy sensors and weapons fire using various counter measures. It is up to each pilot to customize their BattleMech loadout to fulfill their desired role. Find the perfect 'Mech - Hundreds of unique 'Mechs are available, offering a wide range of strengths and weaknesses. Smaller 'Mechs should never stop moving, and can rely on their sheer speed to overwhelm heavier opponents. Larger 'Mechs move slow and deliberate but can stand toe-to-toe with other large opponents. Acquire and test different 'Mechs to find those that best suit your play style.Choose Your Allegiance - Work for the powerful empires of the galaxy to earn their loyalty and spread their influence across the stars. Band together with other pilots using the Looking For Group feature, or use the Faction Chat feature to coordinate offensive and defensive strategies to capture or defend worlds and shift the balance of power.Get Rewarded - Pilots earn ComStar Bills (C-Bills) from playing matches and completing faction contracts, which can be used to purchase new 'Mechs and equipment.Certain items can only be purchased using premium 'Mech Credits (MC). MC can either be purchased directly via real world money or acquired in smaller increments in-game by earning reputation with a Faction in Faction Play, or as rewards from participating in special Events.'Mech Experience (XP) gained during combat is applied to the 'Mech used during that match, and can be used to unlock improvements to various BattleMech systems.MechWarrior Online(TM) also includes a host of achievements to unlock that will challenge even the most skilled players.
