Welcome to the latest entry in our Bonus Round series, wherein we tell you all about the new Android games of the day that we couldn't get to during our regular news rounds. Consider this a quick update for the dedicated gamers who can't wait for our bi-weekly roundups, and don't want to wade through a whole day's worth of news just to get their pixelated fix. Today we've got a unique sound-based puzzle game, a nostalgic sliding block puzzler, and Kairosoft's latest business manager. Without further ado:
In Dark Echo, you move through a world that's only visible when sounds are made. Your character's footsteps are the only way to "see" the stages, where sounds bounce off of walls, obstacles, and monsters. It's almost impossible to describe without both visible and audible help, so check out the video below. The odd aesthetic makes for a unique experience, especially when there are "monsters" in the level with you - it's amazing how scary just a few red squiggles can be. Dark Echo is $2 with no in-app purchases.
Trapped in darkness, you must use visualized sound to guide your way through threatening environments. The sounds you create will bounce off obstacles, revealing the shape of the surrounding world. It won't be long before your only way of sensing the world attracts a horrifying evil that devours both sound and souls. Survive through 80 levels that will make your heart race and leave you with an irrational fear of red lines. A foreboding soundscape, best experienced with headphones, sets the tone for your journey. Explore, solve puzzles, and most importantly - stay alive.
Remember the sliding block puzzles from the old Zelda and Pokemon games? Bloq is that experience distilled into 40 levels (15 for free, the rest for $1). Things start to get interesting, and more difficult, when two simultaneous blocks are introduced. There are no ads or IAP, aside from the level unlock.
Swipe to slide the colored blocks into their matching targets. Solve puzzles with multiple colors, sticky blocks, and levels that wrap around the screen. Challenge yourself with 40 mind bending levels. Styled in clean and simple minimalistic art. Featuring soothing sounds effects and ambient music.
Bonbon Cakery
Kairosoft's latest management game is all about a pastry shop: pick which places to put various treats, adjust the recipes, and rake in the customers. This one is a little more passive than other Kairosoft games - there's no combat or major conflict, just a business to run. Unfortunately it looks like Kairosoft has jumped head-first into the shallow end of mobile gaming: Bonbon Cakery features a dual-currency IAP system not seen in the developer's previous titles.
Have your cake and eat it too in this latest and greatest of cakery simulators, fresh from the Kairosoft oven. Improve your prowess as a p&tissier by pioneering a bountiful catalogue of high-ranking recipes. For example, combine a sponge cake with strawberries and cream--and presto. You'll have whipped together a supple shortcake. Even grace your creations with toppings for added effect. And once you think you're ready, test your confectionary capacity by pitting these pastries in grand competitions.
